Jewish Morocco Walks

Jewish Morocco Walks is a free, browser-based audio walking tour of the Jewish heritage of Morocco's historic cities. There is nothing to install and no account to create — it works in any web browser.

The first tour, Essaouira: A Community That Disappeared, is an 11-stop, roughly 51-minute narrated walk through the Jewish quarter (Mellah) of Essaouira, historically known as Mogador. Narration is available in English, French and Polish. Walk it on location with GPS, or listen from anywhere.

Latest story: How a Rich Unmarried Jewish Woman Dressed in Mogador, c. 1840 — Part 2 — a historical reconstruction of what an unmarried woman from a wealthy Jewish merchant family wore at home and in the street in Mogador around 1840, a generation after the Mellah was created.
